Upon analysis, it is not my drivers.
Considering my laptops specs are better then that of my desktop, the only thing I could think of is that a laptop has less room to circulate air and therefore heats up quicker.
Could a hotter system affect gameplay? _________________ Characters-

It could, but if your machine is getting so hot it's seriously affecting performance, you may have a fan that's not turning on or working properly. Some laptops have a tendency to run a bit warmer than others, particularly those running an AMD chipset, and this can and sometimes will affect the system's performance, but not on a serious level.
Personally, I lay the blame for many issues with a Windows box on the OS itself, particularly when it's a legit install that hasn't been kept up properly. They require regular maintenance, defragmenting, etc. and so forth, and many who own PCs simply don't do what's necessary to keep their machine healthy.
However, let's take this away from my intense dislike of Microsoft's software:
If you think you have a heat issue, obtain a cooling pad (a fan or two that rest underneath your laptop and either draws air away or blows it forward) and see what that does. I suppose it wouldn't help to make sure your laptop's fan is unobstructed, either. If this is your problem, you'll see at least a small improvement.
And I've noticed you've got a 1.6Ghz box, which isn't very powerful for recent games to begin with, especially when you've got resource-hungry Windows running in the background. Tons of RAM, yes, but if you're putting serious strain on your processor and it's heating up, that may be your issue.
So I'm going to say that a cooling pad will help your laptop, particularly if you use it for serious gaming, and throw my lot in with the "it's your OS" crowd. I suggest, if you haven't already, defragmenting your computer, running CCleaner and Spybot, and see how it goes from there.
Sorry for the book. I simply wished to cover all the bases, as it were. |

Thanks for your help
But, to add, it is a brand new laptop and everything is defragged and up to date. Nothing is clogging it up.
The processor is 1.6GHZ but it boosts up to 2.8 when needed. Probably designed to keep the system cooler I guess. Checking CPU usage when playing games, it is using a very low amount of my CPU. It is an i7 as well, which is pretty up to date.
I think that's why I was leaning towards heat issue instead :S _________________ Characters-

Good to hear you're on top of things, at least!
You may be correct in that assumption. But then, even if you're wrong, it's good to keep laptops cool anyway. In my own experiences, having a cooling pad around never hurt, and if nothing else, kept my lap nice and cool. |
